Trust Us to Grow

Our Team

Sarah Johnston, President

Sarah spent more than 25 years in marketing and publishing, until her love of gardening drove her to launch a landscaping business with her husband, Richard Sennott, and son in 2004. Greenlife began with garden and lawn maintenance, and quickly expanded to include horticulture, design and garden installation. She’s proud to run the company with a growing number of family members, including her daughter, son-in-law and daughter-in-law.

Richard Sennott, Vice-President

A former co-owner of the Canadian Conservatory of Music (CCM) in Eastern Ontario, and Executive Director of the Ottawa District Hockey Association for the past 20 years, Richard’s considerable business expertise has contributed greatly to Greenlife’s success. He focuses his exceptional public relations skills on helping the company reach even greater heights. Richard is also a devoted hockey enthusiast; he’s been involved in the sport as a player, coach, educator and administrator for the past 50 years.

Dave Johnston, Operations Manager

A passionate outdoorsman, Dave got his start in landscaping in 2002 as a lawn crewmember for a company in Ottawa’s east end. He joined forces with Greenlife president Sarah in 2004, helping to build the company into the success it is today. Now, as operations manager for both the nursery and landscaping divisions, Dave oversees daily procedures to ensure that everything runs smoothly, and makes certain that plans for future requirements are actioned ready for operation. He also collaborates closely with Sarah, providing business support and advice when needed.

Julie Doyle, Office Manager

An expert in her field, Julie brings two decades of experience in office management and customer service. She sharpened her skills in a range of workplaces, including a nursing home and a cleaning company. But her love of the outdoors drove her to seek something else – the opportunity to serve others and oversee operations while keeping a close connection to nature. As a valued member of the Greenlife team, Julie is able to combine her love of people, community and the outdoors. After hours, she spends time boating and hiking with her family, and obsessing over the Ottawa Senators (but only during hockey season).

Mary Stewart, Nursery Sales and Purchasing Manager, Horticultural Technician

Mary has strong roots in developing healthy natural environments. While completing her BSc. in forestry, she worked with the Canadian Forest Service in ecosystem management. Through her job, she developed an interest in creating landscapes rather than managing them, and decided to change her career path. While studying horticulture at Algonquin College, Mary worked for the Canadian Wildlife Federation, where she learned the importance of attracting pollinators, birds and wildlife to gardens. Mary joined the Greenlife team in 2009, and quickly became our resident expert on building beautiful, sustainable garden systems. Since the Greenlife wholesale nursery opened in 2012, Mary ably extended her responsibilities to include plant sales and purchasing. She is the first point of contact for landscapers, designers and resellers looking to order plants.

Melissa Clark, Nursery Manager, Horticultural Technician

Melissa graduated from Algonquin College’s Horticultural Industries program in 2009 and has worked for Greenlife ever since. She worked in the hospitality industry for 10 years, but her love of the outdoors and all forms of nature, animals, plants and insects eventually led her to pursue a career in horticulture. After completing her formal education, Melissa refined her skills by designing perennial gardens for Greenlife clients. In 2012, she expanded her role to include managing our wholesale nursery and taking care of industry clients who visit the yard to purchase plants.

Jeff Lloyd, Garden Installation and Leader, Lawn Maintenance

A graduate of the journalism programs at the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College, Jeff started his career working as an assistant sports editor, reporter and photographer for several newspapers. But his love of the outdoors drew him to spend off-hours working at a local nursery. Before long, he’d cultivated his green thumb and found a job at Greenlife. After five years doing lawn maintenance and garden installation with our team, he’s now taken on a crew leadership role. He particularly enjoys working with clients to make ordinary gardens extraordinary.

Matthew Schnob, Horticultural Technician

Matt was fresh out of Algonquin College’s Horticultural Industries program when he joined Greenlife in 2011. Working on our garden installation and maintenance team, he quickly proved to have a keen eye for detail, making him the perfect person to review the finishing work on any installation. Before coming to Greenlife, Matt flexed his muscles in a variety of areas: as a machinist, bartender and dental technician, and of course on the fields and slopes. An experienced soccer player and snowboarder, Matt spends his time as both an athlete and a coach – anything to be outside any chance he gets.

Caitlin Saunders, Horticultural Technician and Designer

Caitlin SaundersWith a background in science (she holds a BSc. in biology) and fine arts, as well as formal horticultural training, Caitlin has all the credentials she needs to excel at her craft – and that’s exactly what she does. While studying horticulture at Algonquin College, she created the winning design that was chosen from more than 40 submissions to grace the front of the school’s horticulture building. After graduating at the top of her class in 2013, Caitlin joined Greenlife and began applying her considerable skills to designing beautiful gardens for our clients. She also works on our installation and maintenance crew, ensuring that her designs are expertly brought to life.

Anita Landolt, Horticultural Technician

Anita developed a love of the outdoors at an early age. Growing up on a dairy farm, she spent her youth surrounded by nature and animals. She also built a strong appreciation for physical labour, as well as for the merits of working long hours in any kind of weather. Not surprisingly, while taking some environmental classes for an Arts and Science certificate at St. Lawrence College, Anita discovered that her true calling lay outdoors: in horticulture. After graduating from St. Lawrence in 2013, she enrolled in Algonquin College’s Horticultural Industries program. Anita first joined Greenlife as a co-op student in the summer of 2014, and we’re delighted to have her onboard full-time now that she has completed her studies.

Aurora Heenan, Horticultural Technician

Given the choice, Aurora always prefers to be outdoors rather than indoors. So she decided to find a career that would keep her close to nature. She started out in Algonquin College’s Forestry Technician program before making her way to the Horticulture Technician program at Kemptville College. During her summers, Aurora honed her skills by doing grounds maintenance at the University of Guelph in 2013, and then garden installation and maintenance with Greenlife in 2014. Now, having graduated from Kemptville, Aurora works with our crew full-time as a nursery assistant, getting her hands dirty in the best possible way.

Jessica Rombough, Garden Installation and Lawn Maintenance

Jessica came to Greenlife in the summer of 2013, when she worked with us during her break from the University of Western Ontario’s Health Sciences program. Impressed by her tireless work ethic and her knack for physical tasks – which she developed during her days working construction and winning ringette championships – we invited her back for the summer of 2014. Jessica has now graduated from Western (with multiple scholarships, we might add) and begins post-graduate studies in autumn 2015, but she continues to join our garden installation and maintenance crew in the summers.
