Sarah Johnston, President
Sarah spent more than 25 years in marketing and publishing, until her love of gardening drove her to launch a landscaping business with her husband, Richard Sennott, and son in 2004. Greenlife began with garden and lawn maintenance, and quickly expanded to include horticulture, design and garden installation. She’s proud to run the company with a growing number of family members, including her daughter, son-in-law and daughter-in-law.
Richard Sennott, Vice-President
A former co-owner of the Canadian Conservatory of Music (CCM) in Eastern Ontario, and Executive Director of the Ottawa District Hockey Association for the past 20 years, Richard’s considerable business expertise has contributed greatly to Greenlife’s success. He focuses his exceptional public relations skills on helping the company reach even greater heights. Richard is also a devoted hockey enthusiast; he’s been involved in the sport as a player, coach, educator and administrator for the past 50 years.
Dave Johnston, Operations Manager
A passionate outdoorsman, Dave got his start in landscaping in 2002 as a lawn crewmember for a company in Ottawa’s east end. He joined forces with Greenlife president Sarah in 2004, helping to build the company into the success it is today. Now, as operations manager for both the nursery and landscaping divisions, Dave oversees daily procedures to ensure that everything runs smoothly, and makes certain that plans for future requirements are actioned ready for operation. He also collaborates closely with Sarah, providing business support and advice when needed.
Julie Doyle, Office Manager
An expert in her field, Julie brings two decades of experience in office management and customer service. She sharpened her skills in a range of workplaces, including a nursing home and a cleaning company. But her love of the outdoors drove her to seek something else – the opportunity to serve others and oversee operations while keeping a close connection to nature. As a valued member of the Greenlife team, Julie is able to combine her love of people, community and the outdoors. After hours, she spends time boating and hiking with her family, and obsessing over the Ottawa Senators (but only during hockey season).
Aurora Heenan, Purchasing Manager, Nursery, Horticulture Technician
Given the choice, Aurora always prefers to be outdoors rather than indoors. So she decided to find a career that would keep her close to nature. She started out in Algonquin College’s Forestry Technician program before making her way to the Horticulture Technician program at Kemptville College. During her summers, Aurora honed her skills by doing grounds maintenance at the University of Guelph in 2013, and then garden installation and maintenance with Greenlife in 2014. Now, having graduated from Kemptville, Aurora works with our crew full-time as a nursery assistant, getting her hands dirty in the best possible way.
Kevin Gascoigne, Crew Leader, Landscaping, Horticulture Technician
Kevin has many years of retail and customer service experience as well as industry experience in landscape construction, horticulture, and maintenance. He has worked as a tree planter, a bicycle messenger and as an apple orchard assistant. As a 3-time marathoner, Kevin is always on the go, training for the next event, exploring Gatineau Park or playing frisbee with family and friends. A 2016 graduate (with Honours) of the Algonquin College Horticultural Industries program, Kevin volunteers with the Ottawa Food Bank and the Ottawa Folk Festival in his spare time.
Josee Lawrence, Designer & plant specialist
A graduate of Algonquin College, Josee also studied Floral Design, which is evident in her daily work as she has a true flair for design and creating harmony. Josee has been working with our Greenlife team for over ten years now, completing design, installation, and maintenance services. She is very attentive to clients’ tastes and needs and brings horticultural knowledge and creativity to the team.
Dakota Fripp, Nursery Supervisor, Horticulture Technician
Her love of botany led her to horticulture – meet Dakota Fripp, our Nursery Supervisor and Horticultural Technician. Dakota holds an Honours Bachelor of Science with a Major in Biology and Minor in Psychology from the University of Ottawa (2016), and in 2018 she graduated from the Algonquin College Horticultural Industries program. With many years of retail and customer service experience, Dakota is always excited to learn. She currently has a growing interest in urban foraging and building edible gardens. In her spare time, Dakota enjoys volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club of Ottawa and spending time with her horses.
Sierra Richards-Dawe, Nursery Assistant, Horticulture Technician
When she’s not designing video games, she enjoys identifying plant diseases and pests. Meet Sierra Richards-Dawe, a 2018 graduate of the Algonquin College Horticultural Industries program. Sarah has experience in customer service and at a retail garden centre and – when time permits – she volunteers at the Ottawa Food Bank as well as the Home & Garden Show. A fun fact? Sarah does backstage work for the theatrical group “a Company of Fools”.
Ben Kennedy, Crew member, Landscaping
Ben grew up in an avid gardening family, spending every spare moment outside. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Classical Studies from McGill University (2018) and has over 3 years experience in landscaping. Ask Ben about beekeeping and sustainable food choices as well as urban forms and systems – sustainable design and how to green cities.
Matthew Schnob, Horticultural Technician
Matt was fresh out of Algonquin College’s Horticultural Industries program when he joined Greenlife in 2011. Working on our garden installation and maintenance team, he quickly proved to have a keen eye for detail, making him the perfect person to review the finishing work on any installation. Before coming to Greenlife, Matt flexed his muscles in a variety of areas: as a machinist, bartender and dental technician, and of course on the fields and slopes. An experienced soccer player and snowboarder, Matt spends his time as both an athlete and a coach – anything to be outside any chance he gets.
Jessica Rombough, Garden Installation and Lawn Maintenance
Jessica came to Greenlife in the summer of 2013, when she worked with us during her break from the University of Western Ontario’s Health Sciences program. Impressed by her tireless work ethic and her knack for physical tasks – which she developed during her days working construction and winning ringette championships – we invited her back for the summer after summer. Jessica has now graduated from Western University (with multiple scholarships, we might add) and she is currently completing her Bachelors of Nursing at Ryerson University and she continues to join our garden installation and maintenance crew in the summers.
